Dance Fusion
Class Descriptions
Jazz
With its roots in African dance and
utilizing ballet technique, jazz can take many forms,
including lyrical, classical, street and musical theater.
Our classes emphasize clean technique while fostering
style and raising the dancer's performance level.
Warm-up is designed to strengthen the body and increase
flexibility, and across-the-floor work helps to connect
movement and build technical progressions. Routines
challenge the dancer to dance from the inside out and
push their artistic boundaries.
Hip Hop
A fusion of dance styles incorporating
breaking, funk and jazz, hip hop utilizes a broad spectrum
of movements, from sustained fluidity to hard hitting
isolations. Our hip hop classes emphasize versatility,
promote individual expression, and enhance the dancer's
ability to hear and use music more effectively.
Ballet
As the foundation for so many dance
forms, ballet is integral to the development of every
dancer's alignment, balance, control, strength and musicality.
With an underlying emphasis on improving overall technique,
classes will include barre work, extensive center practice
in adagio, turns, and jumps, and progressions across
the floor.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is not a specific technique, but a combination of methods developed from modern dance and its pioneers, including Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, Merce Cunningham, and Jose Limon. Contemporary can take on many forms, but tends to be a less structured form that focuses on emotional expression and includes a lot of floorwork, contraction and release, and improvisation.
Creative Movement
For our youngest stars, creative movement
provides the perfect introduction to dance, and the
discovery of body and spatial awareness.
Pilates
A non-aerobic physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century, Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles, which help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing spine support. Exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and are designed to strengthen the core, increase flexibility, and improve posture.
